The spiritual growth process is full of ups and downs. There are the times you feel on fire, like you’re in complete alignment with your life’s purpose, with a deep, underlying sense that all is working out as it should be. And there are the times you feel completely and utterly stuck.
While feeling stuck helps shine light on areas of our lives where we still have work to do (this is the good news), the downside of dwelling in the energy of feeing stuck is that we’re often completely blocked. As a result, anything we’re trying to draw into our lives can’t come to us.
In reality, any notion we ever have of feeling stuck is only an illusion. We are free to move forward at any time once we release the “stuck” feeling from our minds. Each one of us has limitless potential, however, sometimes our minds perceive a problem as being so big that it can feel like there’s no solution.
One of my favorite exercises for getting “unstuck” is writing a letter to the Universe. By handing your desires over to the Universe, you release them to a higher power so that you can begin to let go and relax. And when you’re more relaxed, you’re more open to the infinite possibility and potential that already surrounds you.
Ahhh. Doesn’t that feel better already? 🙂 Ok. Here’s how it’s done.
Step 1:
Sit down with your computer or journal and prepare to write your letter to the Universe. (It really doesn’t matter whether you write or type your letter, so do whatever feels right to you.) But first, in a separate document or on a separate sheet of paper, do your best to release any and all negativity surrounding the situation. In your letter to the Universe you’ll want to stay positive, but it’s important to release any negativity beforehand because, let’s be honest, you’re feeling it. So what are your fears about the situation? What do you worry may or may not happen? For instance, ‘I’m afraid I’ll never find love and I’ll end up living alone for the rest of my life.’ Perfect. Get honest. Let it out.
Step 2:
Hopefully after spending some time getting your fears about the situation out on paper, you’re feeling some relief. Now is the perfect time to construct your letter to the Universe stating what you do want. Be descriptive and be sure to word your sentences in the present tense, as if what you desire is already on its way. For example, ‘Thank you for helping me create a wonderfully fulfilling career as a food photographer. ” Be sure to infuse your letter with tons of love and gratitude. Remember, this letter is a statement of faith that what you want is already on its way. How will you feel once you have the thing that you desire? Keep writing until you can feel that positive, emotional feeling pouring off of the page. The more emotionally connected you can feel to whatever it is you desire the better. Sign your letter.
Step 3:
The last step now that you have poured your desires out to the Universe is to let them go. If you typed your letter, throw it in the virtual recycle bin. (Or better yet, email it to yourself and read it a a year or two down the road! I’ve done this before and I was amazed at how closely what I wanted actually transpired in a relatively short amount of time.) If you wrote your letter by hand, seal it in an envelope and tuck it away somewhere or (safely) burn it. Treat yourself to a celebratory glass of wine or cup of tea. Create your own little ritual and have fun with it!
