Ok, real talk. My motivation has been all over the place lately. One minute I’m a girl on fire Alicia Keys style with a master plan to take over the world. The next minute all I want to do is lay on the couch with a glass of wine and a bag of Trader Joe’s herb and spice popcorn watching reruns of Modern Family. (Can you feel me?)
The other morning I was scrolling through Instagram looking at pictures of other people out doing what I want to do and I noticed myself feeling frustrated, wondering what was separating me from them. It was like, “Ugh. What gives??!”
I’ll tell you what gives: RESISTANCE.
Any time you’re actively working on any spiritual or personal growth path, you will encounter resistance in some shape or form. In fact, often the more your soul is asking you to stretch and grow, the bigger that resistance shows up — it’s just part of the game.
Resistance can be a major roadblock along the path to your dreams and goals if you don’t know how to recognize it. It can cloud your vision making everything seem messy. It can convince you that your dreams are too big or too complicated or not worth going after. (All lies, by the way.) Resistance can literally paralyze you if you’re not careful.
Personally, when I’m feeling resistance, I tend to procrastinate. I am not a lazy person by any means. I actually enjoy getting a lot done, but I can procrastinate like it’s my full time job if I’m putting off something really big. I’ll trick myself by staying “busy” with minor, unimportant tasks like checking my email fifty times per day (because, you never know), when really I’m just putting off actually following through with my goals.
We often view resistance as this huge, awful thing but it doesn’t have to be. All resistance really means is that you’re onto something big. Maybe something really big. So in that way, the presence of resistance is actually good. It means you’re on the right path.
I believe in your dreams and goals. I want to help you move through resistance instead of becoming paralyzed by it. That’s why I want to share with you this simple question to help bust through resistance and get your mojo back.
You ready? 🙂
When you feel resistance, ask yourself, “What would the person I want to be do in this situation?“
Your answer might be as simple as, “Well, she would get up and go for a run,” or as big as “She would write the damn book already.” Whatever response comes to you, I want you to really take that in. Because here’s the secret: All that’s keeping you from the person you are today and the person you want to be is this action. You got that? Can you feel how huge that is?
Now here’s the next step: Get out and do it. It REALLY is that simple.
Over to you! Are you struggling with resistance in a particular area of your life? Ready to commit to a breakthrough? What would the person you want to be do in this situation? Let me know in the comments below!
xoxo
