Lesson number 48 from A Course in Miracles states: The presence of fear is a sure sign that you are trusting in your own strength. I love, love, love this because it’s so true! Let me show you what I mean.
Picture a situation that’s been weighing heavily on your mind and causing you to live in a state of fear. This might be a financial or career related issue, a relationship or any number of other circumstances. Think about the way you’ve been feeling, the thoughts you’ve been thinking, the actions you’ve been taking.
Now let me ask you a question. “What would you do if you knew everything was going to be fine?”
How would you feel then? What would you say? How would you act? I know one thing for certain. You sure as hell wouldn’t be wasting your precious time sitting around worrying about it.
I had an a-ha moment over the past weekend. I was sitting with one of my girlfriends chatting and catching up over coffee. We were yapping away, future-tripping over a certain situation that we’re both going through (getting way ahead of ourselves, trying to sort out details we can’t possibly know) when, suddenly, I felt this calming realization wash over me. And in that instant I just knew: Everything is going to be fine. I wasn’t sure how things were going to work out or what was going to happen exactly but I just felt it, deep down, so strongly that everything was going to be ok. If you’ve ever experienced a moment like that of pure knowing, then you know how profound it can be.
I felt in that instant as if my mind was literally expanding. Suddenly, everything I had just been so worried about mere moments before seemed inconsequential. I felt calm and totally at peace.
When we rely solely on our mind (or ego) to try and solve a problem or situation, we become consumed with worry, doubt and fear. The reason for this is that our mind alone can’t possibly know what the future holds or what is best for us. So we go around and around in circles, trying to figure everything out yet never coming to any reasonable conclusion. When we can drop down from our mind and into our heart, we access that place in our soul that knows exactly what we want and what is best for us. We can suddenly see the big picture and we become relaxed, peaceful and calm as we embrace a deep inner knowing that everything truly will work out for the best.
When we act from a place of worry or fear we literally shrink or constrict. We block our inner guidance and can only see a small piece of the picture. When we are able to come from the place of, “Everything is going to be fine” we create a mind shift that allows us to relax and opens us up to possibilities we couldn’t see before. We become limitless. When we begin to lean on a presence greater than ourselves then we begin to act from a place of knowing, love and expansiveness rather than worry and fear. Sounds amazing, right?
So back to this situation that’s been bugging you – I want you to try this little exercise. I know it will help you connect to your inner guidance and feel more relaxed, calm and guided.
Grab a pen and paper and answer the following questions. Putting pen to paper really helps solidify the benefits of this exercise, so don’t skimp out here. Write it down! 😉
1. What is the situation that is bothering you? What types of fears are coming up for you? What types of things have you been saying or doing as a result of this fear?
2. How do you hope to feel once this issue is finally taken care of? (Even if you don’t know the exact outcome that you want, by focusing on feeling how you want to feel – relieved, happy, secure – that will help bring about the best possible outcome.)
3. How would you feel if you knew everything was going to be just fine? What types of actions would you take? What would you say? What plans would you make? Get specific here and write it all down!
There, you’ve done it! 🙂 Now, every time you feel fear come up I want you to go back to Question number 3. Take a moment to breathe and access the feelings and thoughts that came up for you when recognized how it would feel to know that everything is going to be fine. Because it is, my love.
I hope this exercise serves you. If you have any a-ha moments yourself I’d love to hear them. Leave me a comment below!
xoxo

I should’ve read this yesterday! I had to talk to my boss about something big, and I was making myself sick over it all day. I even got so nervous during the meeting, I actually told him “I’m sorry, I’m really nervous” (ha)…but as soon as we had our conversation, I felt fine, and he was so understanding. I will be using this in the future!
